About Us!!!

Founded by Rev. Grover C. Willcox and his wife Helen. The first Sunday Worship service of the Calvary Gospel "Fellowship" was held on November 9, 1947 in the home of one of it's members in neighboring Irvington, NJ. The early years were difficult, not only was the work ridiculed as a "wasteful work of man and not of God" but vicious lies about the ministry were spread through the Christian churches in the community. God perserved. By 1949 the "fellowship" was incorporated as the Calvary Gospel Church. In the same year the church was able to purchase a 2 1/2 family house in the North-central end of the city. There they stayed until they literally "outgrew" the building. In 1964 the Calvary Gospel Church moved to it's present home in the South end of the city of Newark.

Rev. Grover C. Willcox and his wife Helen remained at Calvary Gospel Church until November 1992 where they left to become missionaries in Uganda, East Africa. In October 2005 Rev. Willcox went to be with the Lord. His wife Helen continues the work that they started in Uganda.

On June 6, 1993 Rev. Dr. Steven B. Davis and his wife Denise were called to be "only"  the second pastor of the Calvary Gospel Church. Rev. Davis had been part of the church since 1967 and was active in Conqueror's Club (High School Youth Group). He later became Minister of Youth. In 1981 Rev. Davis moved to Virginia where he was campus minister at Norfolk State University representing Tom Skinner Associates. In 1985 he became the pastor of Westminster Baptist Church also in Norfolk, Va.

Our Mission
Calvary Gospel Church is committed to the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Messages and Sermons teach the Bible, People are trained to be a witness for Christ. We believe that man's only hope is in personal relationship with the God of Creation through his son  Jesus Christ.
Company History

Since 1947 the Calvary Gospel Church has been committed to the preaching of the gospel. One of the many avenues used was it's work with children and teenagers. Conqueror's Club (the High School youth group)has literally reached thousands of young people thoughout the city of Newark and vicinity. Other ministries for younger children (Dorcus Girls and Braves, Pioneer Club and Calvary Young People's Department) has had similar results. A number of our young leaders in the church are those who were once in one of those youth ministries. In the early sixties a group of young people from the Conqueror's Club was challenged to an even greater ministry. These young people under the leadership of Pastor and Mrs. Willcox form a "Gospel Team". These young people over the years .through the medium of music and personal testimonies sang and preached in rescue missions, high schools, churches, colleges, seminaries throughout the United States and Canada
